Voting is personal, but it's still an important topic.

It's that time again and no one can argue that this upcoming election is one of the most important this country will ever see. I know many of us want to protect our children from the downsides of politics and voting, yet still educate them on it and its importance. And regardless of what we do and don't do, our kids are exposed to it anyway!

They hear us discuss it at home and with our peers, they hear about it on social media, they hear about it with their friends...it's like cursing - they're aware whether we want them to be or not!

...teach and encourage your kids to exercise their right in an informed way...

Voting is such a personal thing...but it is also such an important topic! However you choose to exercise your right to vote, be sure to teach and encourage your kids to exercise their right in an informed way, especially, but not only, if you have any new 18-year-olds.

The current societal and political climate is highly charged! They can't escape it, and yet it can be another source of frustration or anxiety. Even still, you're raising the next President of the United States, the next Ambassador to a foreign country or the UN, the next grassroots movement leader, the next Senator, the next Judge, etc.

So, show them how to educate themselves PROPERLY about the process, the issues, and the candidates. Explain how their vote matters. And, above all else, make sure they understand that their decision is THEIR decision and they are loved, whether you agree or disagree.

Have your kids expressed any opinions or asked any questions about this year's election or voting in general? How do you address this topic or even current events so they can be informed, in a way that is appropriate for their age? Share your thoughts in the comments below! Let's start a discourse!
