Helping Students Achieve Math Success

My name is Christina Alliance and I am an online/virtual Algebra tutor.
I’ve worked with young people since 1997, tutoring them in math, teaching them biblical principles, and mentoring them as they navigate their adolescent years. In 2012, I felt the call to take that work to the next level and teach math in the high school setting. It was amazing! Being able to share my love for and excitement of math on a regular basis was great! Being able to help my students overcome their challenges with math and get them to a place where they could persevere through a variety of problems....now that was awesome!! I loved seeing the light bulbs go off and hearing kids who came in hating and despairing in math have those “Aha!” moments.
But after several years in the school system, I began to realize the support for students who were levels behind in math was insufficient. The students who needed that 1:1 guidance were always the ones who fell through the cracks of an imperfect system, and were the ones that had to retake courses or resit exams multiple times. It was frustrating to know they were suffering and realize the educational system did not allow for the necessary supports to consistently be in place so that we teachers could effectively and consistently DO something about it. At first, I thought it was just me. So I began to research, and I realized this was a predicament most teachers find themselves in - wanting to reach EVERY student and not being able to within the environment of the school. I began to wonder what I could do to make a difference in the lives of kids who needed more guidance, more help beyond school. I thought of tutoring, but my day was already extremely long and there was no way to fit it into my schedule.
Eventually, escalating health challenges reached a peak and I realized I could not continue to wear myself out as I had been doing. I went on medical leave for major surgery, but the subsequent school year found me consistently taking days off due to my health. Added to that was the fact that my daughter was entering her senior year of high school and I had barely been around for her previous school years. A decision was made that would allow me to be present for my daughter, take care of my health, and have the opportunity to fulfill my passion to positively impact young people.
Today, I empower students all over the world to succeed by helping them overcome their struggles and anxiety in one of their toughest academic areas, math! Students are constantly amazed at how I'm able to help them be calm so they can focus more on learning, and less on performing. They love the way I break down math concepts for them so that they finally understand.
I offer services for middle school/junior high school Pre-Algebra tutoring online, that's 7th-8th grade math; high school Algebra 1 tutoring online and Algebra 2 tutoring online; and College Algebra tutoring online.
